SEO Tips For E-Commerce: Boosting Sales During The Holiday Season

The holiday shopping season is in full swing.

As consumers are checking their lists twice, you should also be checking your list to make sure you don’t miss out on a successful Q4.

Near the top of that list should be improving your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts, especially if you’re an e-commerce business.

Before we get started on optimizing SEO, you want to be sure that your website is running smoothly.

This first impression is a big one.

If you want returning shoppers, be sure they want to come back.

If there are errors that pop up, or if your website isn’t running up-to-speed, those customers will be sure to leave.

Everything flowing smoothly?

Now we can move on to performing an SEO audit on your website.

Make sure each web page has powerful keywords.  This means making sure each item you’re selling has a target keyword in its description.  Experts recommend using two to three words in today’s digital world.

Not sure what keywords to use?

Perform an online search to see what words are trending today. You’ll be able to pick up what consumers are looking for within your industry.

Next, make sure that all images on your website have proper ALT tags.

ALT tags are words that describe images to visually impaired readers. ALT tags also help search engines rank your content higher.

While you’re working on standing out from your competition, remember to keep your keywords simple.

Put yourself in your consumer’s shoes.  What would you type if you were to do an online search for your business, product or service?

Once you’ve reviewed your website for powerful keywords, you can move onto links.

Using internal links can do a lot for your website.  These links serve as a personal guide, leading your consumer in and out of your “store” within priority pages.

So, if you’re a spa owner and have content that describes nail services, be sure to link the customer right back to your nail services page somewhere within that same paragraph. This way, the customer can click on what interests them immediately, while still staying on your website.

Finally, don’t forget to use links on images as well.

Some may say the more links the better. It truly depends on the business.

Too many links can frustrate the consumer.  On the other hand, though, consumers who are ready to buy may appreciate the variety of links.

Keep in mind too, that not only is quantity of links important, so is the quality of links.

Making sure you link correctly gives your online presence credibility.

So, while consumers are out in full force this holiday season, these SEO tips should help your online store generate sales leading to a happy holiday and an exciting way to start the new year!
